BIRDS AWAKENING IN NORMANDIE
“The ‘Bois de Caux’ in Normandy is close to Brotonne Forest and the village of Auzebosc. Here, between 4 and 7 o’clock in the morning, Jean-Luc Hérelle made the seven recordings presented in this CD in the form of a shortened morning in a Normandy forest. Before dawn, the Tawny Owl sings to the accompaniment of some early birds (Wren, Blackbird, Cuckoo). As the dawn advances, we hear Woodpigeon and Song Thrush, then warblers and Chiffchaff. Carrion Crows move about calling, after daybreak.”

Introduction

Introduction
The “Bois de Caux” (“Caux Wood”) in Normandy is close to Brotonne Forest and the village of Auzebosc, near the small town of Yvetot, where the author of this CD, Jean-Luc Hérelle, lives. It’s here, on 14 May 1993, between 4 and 9 o’clock, in the morning, that he made the 7 recordings presented here in the form of a shortened morning in a Normandy forest. Before dawn, the Tawny Owl sings to the accompaniment of some early birds : Wren, Blackbird, Cuckoo. As the dawn advances, we hear Woodpigeon and Song Thrush, then warblers and Chiffchaff. Carrion Crows move about calling, after daybreak. The digital recordings were made using a DAT AIWA with the aid of TELINGA stereo microphone/parabolic reflector combination. No changes to the sound were made in the studio, except for the exclusion of aeroplane noise by simple editing. A new sound recordist with Sittelle, Jean-Luc Hérelle is an experienced naturalist, who will soon be preparing other recordings made in Normandy. He is also the author of the CD “Quebec Soundscapes” published at the same time as this CD.
