Sucré salé avec Vincent Cordelette et Pierre Guillemant
The compositions of Marc Deschamps weave together to form a poetic universe: their successive themes recall the sensual harmony of a romantic piano, the impish ditties of an Erik Satie, or the crystal-clear elegance one associates with a Keith Jarrett. His scores have provided rhythms for many films made for television and the cinema, and they’ve earned him an enviable reputation: the only thing missing was a trio-recording of his own that featured all his influences. ’Sucré salé’, recorded with Pierre Guillemant and Vincent Cordelette, does justice to his many talents both as a composer and as a pianist: it’s the consecration of a new name in the history of the piano, a man writing a new chapter on this in-between genre featuring intimist jazz and spellbinding background-music.

Pianiste – compositeur/arrangeur – producteur
Marc Deschamps
Pianist – composer/arranger – producer
Marc Deschamps was born in 1957 and began learning to play the piano when he was six. At the age of ten he entered the National Conservatory in Paris – for six years – to study under Mme Giraudeau, and during this period he won several competitions including the UFAM and the Prix Bellan. He discovered jazz when he was fifteen thanks to Claude Bolling, and went on to study harmony with André Hodeir before attending the Berklee School in Boston, Mass., in 1978.
As a pianist, Marc Deschamps accompanied many popular-song artists in the Eighties, among them Isabelle Mayereau, Marcel Amont and Paul Anka. In parallel during that period he began a jazz career, playing with Benny Waters, B.A. Henry or Karl Schlosser. He also appeared regularly in Parisian clubs – Bilboquet, Petit Journal, Méridien – before founding his own group.
Marc Deschamps started as a composer in 1978, first writing for the theatre (the musical Ulysse aux Pays des Merveilles at the Théâtre Daunou in Paris). Later, he began composing theme-music for television (shows, documentaries and advertising), and also wrote for the cinema (short-films) and various institutions (soundtracks).
The record Sucré salé, released in October 2010 by Frémeaux & Associés, demonstrates the maturity in every facet of this composer's writing, and – either solo or with a trio – the pianist rivals the lyrical expressiveness of contemporaries such as Keith Jarrett, Patrick Favre or Thierry Lang.
