AMAZONIE
AMAZONIE

This disk reproduces the wild atmosphere of the great Amazonian forest still to be found on the hillsides of the Guianan region. The sound of the various animals vary in intensity, refecting their level of activity through the day.The concert is a faithful representation of animal life at the heart of the South American forest as it has existed for centuries. The numbering system indicates the appearance of a new species, enabling the listener to recognise the calls which are characteristic of various species of monkeys, birds and batrachians. The index enables you to identify individual species and their particular song or call. Used in conjunction, the two “Amazonia” volumes give a solid approach to the fauna of the upland Guianan forest and recognition of the 3 essential primates, more than 90 kinds of birds and several characteristic batrachians. This recording was made exclusively in French Guiana, mainly at the research centres on the St. Elie dirt road (Sinnamary) and Nouragues (Arataye), as well as around the Saül village. These are extracts of sound recordings made by “Audio Patrimoine International” (Montgardier, Vaulnaveys-le-Haut, F-38410 Uriage), an association whose aim is to collect and conserve the threatened sounds, especially those of the pristine tropical forests. These recordings, within the new 20 years, will become a collection for memory, one of the rare witnesses of the forests.Recording and mixing by Olivier Tostain and Pierre Huguet. With special thanks to Jean Lescure (National Museum of Natural History, Paris) for having identified the voices of the batrachians. Thanks also to Jean Michotte (†) and Jean-Jacques De Granville (Centre IRD de Cayenne), Michèle Fouilleux, Louis Geslin, “Grenoble Recherche”, and Pierre Charles-Dominique (URA 1183, CNRS, MNHN, F-91800 Brunoy) who have all contributed to the success of the recording campaigns in French Guiana.IRD (ex Orstom), the “Institut de recherche pour le développement” associated itself in the development of this record in the context of its studies on the tropical area environment and its efforts to promote science and related audiovisual and educational means.
