« A first class talent » par Dirty Linen

This award-winnig double album, which comes with a limited-edition lithograph signed by the artist, features 36 tracks and includes a 64-page booklet (in French). The album traces the career of a singer, musician, percussionist, bandleader, and painter who has had a long and illustrious career. Over the years Guédon, who is originally from Martinique, has released a couple of dozen albums that fuse jazz with rythms from Africa and the West Indies. The tracks on Retrospective, most of which were composed by guédon, date from 1972 to 1992, although they are not presented chronogically. There may not be a whole lot of variety but Guédon is a first-class talent, and some tracks do stand out as being particularly distinctive. « Mazurka tropical » and « Neg Macouba » are two of them.
