There can’t be many CDs where film star Robert Mitchum rubs shoulders with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, Fats Domino, Latin star Tito Puente, Bill Haley, and British actress Diana Coupland – if there are, they are probably also on Frémeaux. (…) Of course, the Caribbean is a large and extremely diverse area, and its diaspora is even more expansive, which explains the breadth of characters just mentioned above. The aim of this set is to show that Caribbean cultural influence on the American mainland was sizeable, in addition to being widely underestimated an undervalued. (…) Overall, a successful and interesting release.
