If some of the weaker numbers sound like precursors of that blander-than-bland modern-day phenomenon known as smooth jazz, the best bear his unmistakable imprint, fluent born riff blending with seductive vocals. The presence of the Brecker brothers, Michael and Randy, is one selling point, but the real meat is to be found in the collaboration with the Jamaican studio double act Sly and Robbie.”
