« FA181 ‘Early Jazz’ scores over the recent Disky double by presenting just what it says it does. Whereas the Disky selection barely deigns to nod towards the ODJB before quickly moving on towards Louis Armstrong and, ultimately, Benny Goodman the most recent track here King Oliver’s ‘Snake Rag’ from 1923. Some of the stuff from the likes of Wilbur Sweatman, Jim Reece Europe and Ted Lewis may give cause for (heated) discussion but it certainly will not bore.
